The Netherlands: Amsterdam

A

msterdam is hands down one of the easiest cities in the world to navigate. Public transportation is most accessible.

Whether you stay three days or three weeks, Amsterdamn does not disapoint. You can see most of the major tourist attractions in a few day, maybe get a feel for the distinct neighborhoods. If you are lucky enought to stay longer within a few days, you will feel the ease of the city vibe.

Discover the neighrborhoods

The best way to spend time in Amsterdamn are casual walks down the cobbelstones streets and uniques shops. Outdoor dining and people watching. Sitting in the parks. Taking a boat ride down the many beautiful canals.

A major highlight for me was the Van Gogh Museum - my favorite; a true representation of the life of Vincent.

X marks the spot on I stopped into an adorable breakfast cafe,  Luza’s. Although these two look like they are being held up they are really embracing the X pose! I also asked some new friends if the would mark the spot for me on the infamous oversized “Amsterdam” letters in the park.

Arcade Hotel (hostel) has vintage video game rooms, decent ensuite hostel accomodations.

Boat Hostel - Vita Nova - very unique and cheap alternative to a hostel. At first you think, this is the smallest room possible and with a shared shared shower… and the you realize "I have use of the rest of the boat!" There's a large common galley to cook and hang out with other guests. The upper decks are available...when its not raining. At first hard to locate, but once you find the landmark, the nearby science museum, easy peasy.

The Colors of Mongolia

Watching real nomads live as they do, is still something I am processing. I came from a life that was rooted down in one town with many comforts of modern society. Giving up that rooted life has been very freeing, but watching the Mongolian nomads live as they do, moving from place to place, not long enough to grow crops, and living with minimal materialistic items was legitimately humbling.

One of my favorite ‘tourist attractions’ is the unique [experience] of a cooking class in whatever city I’m visiting. I’ve tried dozens and, though not all of them were outstanding, they all did offer an insight to the culture and practices of daily life.
